Watching women dressed in different colours during these nine days of Navratri is absolutely a pleasant treat to the eye. Stree shakti or empowerment of women as these nine days depict has taken a different interpretation altogether this year with COVID. Confined to homes, away from the night festivities, the Dandiya to music to Durga Puja to visits to temples and delicious food, women have found ways to carry on the celebrations this time with aplomb. Social media pictures have a gala display of sarees and colours that match the distinct colours of the Devi during these nine nights. Bringing the colours of these auspicious nights during the time of the epidemic is the difference that we women have brought into this festival of joy, of prayers, of victory and celebration. Interpreting these colours in these times…our homes have the colour of ORANGE which depicts the brightness of the festival and can certainly be brightened by orange candles, lamps or even decorations that are bright. The colour WHITE ensures that we are calm and peaceful with the situation that we are in today, while colour RED enables us to grow fearless and face the situation with courage. BLUE is the colour that the family decorates their homes with to welcome the Goddess of wealth and health which is much needed in these times. YELLOW represents happiness and brightness, the colour worn by all the family members. GREEN which stands for prosperity and growth is when plants and trees around are to be worshipped for Nature needs to be protected to save us from further wrath. GREY which represents transformation, a day for us to gain strength as we look at the pillars of strength that each place of worship has, as it houses the Goddess. PURPLE stands for creativity and hence we could as a family sit together and think of creative ways to enable our lives better and PEACOCK GREEN which would bring true all desires that one prays for in these nine days which also includes healing for this world! A Navratri to remember in the new era to come….
